Our Primary school cookery days have started and on Tuesday 25 January we were at St Joseph’s school teaching the children about Healthy Local Food. Our chefs Ian and Susan assisted by former food and primary school teacher Gilly Bennett showed the children how to cook Fruity pork chops and a Leek and potato omelette.  Later the children from years 5 and 6 cooked a Chunky vegetable soup with pasta and Char grilled trout with a watercress and tomato salad.

They also learned about the nutritional  benefits of eating locally produced food and also how the local economy can improve if we support our local food producers. Organiser Mary Reader said “Every scrap of food was eaten so the children had a great time and are continuing to learn about their local food suppliers.”
